Church schools

Just wondering..... DD is baptised Catholic and so is DH, I am CofE, we do go to Catholic church though. Will the fact that I am not Catholic be held against us if we are applying for Catholic schools or is it irrelevant what faith parents are? Any advice or experience of this appreciated - thanks

oh good! that what I was hoping, its just the school we are hoping to get her into is 95% RC and last yr had over 100 applications for 30 places so its obviously horribly oversubscribed ....

It is generally NOT irrelevant what faith the parents are as many church schools are very over-subscribed and priority will be given to baptised Catholic children whose parents are practising Catholics. However, your specific question was will it matter that only one parent is Catholic and in that case the answer is no. Our very over-subscribed Catholic school is also about 95% Catholic but, at a guess, in both my ds's classes, less than 50% of the children have two Catholic parents. I suppose this figure will be replicated throughout the school.

It's the faith of the child - they usually ask for you to send off the baptism certificate with your application form.

agree it is faith of child but usually that would mean at least 1 parent would be same faith IME most catholic children will have either mother also catholic or father. Our Priest will not baptise your child unless at least 1 parent is a practising Catholic also 1 Godparent must be practising Catholic.
