Do you know any Seaside Rhymes?

Hi there.

I am arranging a seaside themed party for my little girl's first birthday and I want to create some sheets with seaside themed songs on for them to say/sing along to with their mum/dad. However all I can think of is 'Oh I do like to be beside the seaside' and all the others I've found on the web are too old fashioned/complex...

Can anyone think of other seaside related rhymes/songs/poems which would work with this age group (around 1-4 years old)?

Thanks so much in advance!

She sells seashells on the seashore?

How about 'A sailor went to sea, sea, sea' that's one of my 3 year olds favourites.

Or 'The big ship sails on the ally ally oh'

Slippery Sam was a slippery seal
A slippery seal was he
He slithered and slipped all over the sand
And then he slid down to the sea.

One two three four five once I caught a fish alive,

Four little fishes swimming out to sea
One met a shark
and then there were three

3little fishes wondering what to do
One hid in a great big shell
and then there were 2.

2 ittle fishes looking for some fun
One chased after a wave
and that left only one.

one little fish with all his friends gone
went back home to find his mum
and that left none !

A sailor went to sea sea sea
to see what he could see see see
but all that he could see see see
was the bottom of the deep blue sea sea sea

there's bonny bobby shaftoe, but I suppose that is quite old-fashioned now...

There's the Disney song Under the Sea from the Little Mermaid

She sells seashells on the seashore - more of a tongue twister than a rhyme.

Row row row your boat could theoretically be extrapolated to include the sea not just the stream couldn't it?

5 little ducks went swimming one day could be about the sea.

Actually there are row row your boat bits with the sea in them, i think ..

Row, row, row your boat
Gently as can be
Cause if you're not careful
You'll fall into the sea!

or

Row, row, row your boat
Gently to the shore
If you see a lion
Don't forget to roar

or

Row, row, row your boat
Gently out to sea
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily
We'll be home for tea

or

Row, row, row your boat
Gently back to shore
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily
Home for tea at four

I was going to suggest the Geordie song dance to your daddy but may reconsider on reading these lyrics. Let's hope that they are too young to understand.

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 08/03/2010 17:02

Can't believe no one has suggested this yet but...

Oh I do like to be beside the seaside,
I do like to be beside the sea,
I do like to stroll along the prom, prom, prom,
Where the brassbands play
Tiddley-om-pom-pom!
So just let me be beside the seaside,
I'll be beside myself with glee;
And there's lots of girls beside,
I should like to be beside,
Beside the seaside, beside the sea.

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 08/03/2010 17:04

hmm not sure about the 'lots of girls beside' bit? Mainly harmless.

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 08/03/2010 17:06

12345 once I caught a fish alive

My bonny lies over the ocean
My bonny lies over the sea
My bonny lies over the ocean
Bring back my bonnie to me to me
Bring back my bonnie to me.
