How do I 'make' a painting apron..??

Have been informed by DS's school that in Yr 1 he will need a 'painting apron' and that I should be able to 'make' one from an old shirt....? The only other clue I get is to 'use elastic and velcro (for the fastening)' and that it will need a hook to hang up, and his name very clearly marked....

HOW?
Anyone got details/ links to a pattern?

I have between now & Sept to take on this haberdashery challenge...

(Can't I just buy one - or is that just 'not on' !!!!?? )

Mens shirt. Velcro where buttons were. Cut down sleeves and run elastic thro' to hold them back at the wrist. Child wears it backwards

  1. Cut down the sleeves to the right length for ds. Use elastic to make new cuffs so that the paint etc doesn't run up his arms.
  1. Put velcro on the button placket - easier for him to do up than buttons.

  2. Sew a piece of ribbon/tape into the neck to hang it up

  3. If you are feeling particularly creative, use a big permanent marker to put ds's name on the back of his shirt - eg "Joe's overall" so that he will identify it easily (and so will anyone else)

HTH!

Darn it - not quick enough

Is this a normal request then?
Crikey, how inadequate do I feel?

Don't Boden do them or something.....

Ikea do! My dd's nursery use them for mealtimes and in three years she never had a speck of food on her.

  1. Give them an old t-shirt
2. Umm, that's it really.

That's the way we do them in the tamum household, at least

they are cheap at ELC.

Blimey...make one?

We have an excellent one from Ikea...is that cheating?
