Do any of your children "play dumb" at school?

My DD1 is in reception. I have noticed recently that she will come home and in the book there will be things like "well done, but still 7 words that need work". When I read them with her she knows them all, yet by the comments I get back it seems to me that she doesn't know them. This has happened several times, (well since the beginning really) even with books where I think she is pretending she can't read them when she can. I asked her what was going on and she says always "well the teacher couldn't hear what I was saying properly". It's not a big deal but I was wondering if anyone came across this before and what you would do to address it! ;o)

Is she really shy at school?

I know someone with a shy son. She was told that he couldn't count to 10 (when he was as the school nursery) when she knew that he could. I think kids often have to 'perform' in the few minutes the teacher can allocate to the reading/testing and if they're shy they can miss the chance to show the teacher what they can do.

I guess it's easier to shrug and pretend not to know when you just feel under pressure.

I'm not sure what can be done about it though.
