We are currently livng abroad so I am hoping someone can tell me the style of writing they teach in schools in the UK i.e. do they teach printing or cursive style of writing.

DS1 would be in year 1 if we were in the UK and as we will return to a UK school next year I am trying to keep his learning at the same level as year 1 in the UK. while I am reasonably confident he will be fine with the level of Maths and English (reading) I have no clue when it comes to writing, please help.

I believe most schools used cursive script right from day1

Depends on the school. There was another thread recently about a child making the transition. It really isn't that huge a difference.

Our school starts with flicks and curves and builds that up into joined-up writing by Yr2. From what I see, children who transfer in from having learnt only printing previously don't find it that hard to adjust.

IME they do teach cursive (although not at ds's school until Y2) but there is nowhere near as much emphasis on penmanship as there is in, say, France.
