where can I learn Latin?

I wish I had taken Latin at school, but there you go.

Ds's school does not offer Latin.

We would both fancy learning (we're not too poncetastic!) but an exhaustive search of the south of England only turns up classes in Latin American Studies or... Tracey's Latin Pole- dancing Lessons, neither of which is entirely suitable!

Is it possible to motivate oneself to do distance learning, or can you only really learn in a class environment?

Dixie, was that the course with the series of books eg orange, blue, purple etc.? I can never get the "Metella est in horto" out of my mind.
Very proud of my GCSE A as well! I find that I can figure out the meaning of some words if I can remember some of my latin.

the dog popped his clogs in the eruption of I remember correctly, chosing to stay by his mastr despite being unchained (or was this a dodgy Latin dream??) I am so sure I have seen distance latin somewhere - try the National Extension College, or google some tutor websotes and try and sort of do it yourself.
Ego sum polyspaston is all I can remember! And six is sex, the cause of mucho giggles in 'Latin Bingo'

What are you talking about, you can only learn in a classroom environment??? you will love distance learning, it is heaven, you go fast when you understand it, slow when you don't, you don't have to wait for anybody or be rushed for anybody! vale!

I did Latin with the Open University as part of my degree but you can just take individual courses if you like. You do get face to face sessions that are optional with your tutor group (mine were once a month for 2 or 3 hours).

www3.open.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/course/a297.htm

There is also a more advanced course.

I loved latin at school, mainly cos we got to dress in sheets as togas, and eat grapes lying on the desks etc, etc - my teacher was def v quirky!!!

All I remember is "Scintilla in culina laborat, cenam parat, fessa est" - not sure which books they were, but there was a family of 4 and the dog was called Argus I think!

Hello. If anyone is still looking...www.ilearnlatin.com is a good site for learning Latin - as an adult, rather than a child. It covers complete beginners and has reviews about different books, online courses, tutors etc.. It has a lot about the Cambridge Latin Course.
