We're moving to the area and ds1 has an assessment to join year 3 in September. Anyone know it? We've looked round and liked it. Any idea what the assessment involves? The letter just says English (comprehension, reading, creative writing), maths and verbal reasoning.

One of my closest friends DD and DS go there. They both left state primary to join in year 3. They are very happy there and doing very well academically. I seem to remember that the assessments are based on the key stage 1 sats that your DS will be doing at the end of year 2.
The school is quite sporty and also musical so if your Ds enjoys either of these activities he should fit in.
I can ask her about the tests if you would like some more info- both her children were in the top groups at state primary for english, maths, spelling and reading so if your son is doing well at school he should be fine with the tests.

Thanks wed99, that's very useful. He's not sporty (not obviously so anyway) but loves music so that sounds good.

His current school did some SATs testing at the end of year 1 and he did well, so if the test at Beechwood is based on that then I'm thinking he'll hopefully find it familiar at least. Always a worry to think of them sitting any kind of "test" at this age! Thanks again.
