The Family Moral Movement

*PETITION WEBSITE BELOW PLEASE SIGN AND SPREAD THE WORD

www.thepetitionsite.com/1/family-moral-movement*

Please support this important petition for the rights of our children and to protect 'THE FAMILY' the true heart of any country'
As Mothers we must do all we can to guide our children and families.

Thoughts and experiences would be greatly recieved about this subject.

..Campainging to clean up the image of how women are portrayed on the covers of newspapers and magazines, ie soft porn mags such as zoo and Nuts and The Sport and The Star.

Most of these publications are at 'eye leval' of children, which teaches and force feeds them from an early age to 'except' and view women AND THEMSELVES as 'sex objects'.

We believe it fuels the Porn industry by encourging younger people to links to stronger material, as most soft porn titles such as Zoo, Nuts, Maxim etc have no age limits.
It also causes a great secret pain of countless women, who feel 'degraded' and 'de-valued',with many young women and young girls mis-guided to the value of their own sexuality, and self image.
These publications fuel a market of 'false' opportunities of fame and fortune., which leads to an exploitation of young women.

These issues are now starting to be reconised by Goverment too. Please write or email your local M.P.

In a recent survey publicised in The Daily Mail, 100% of young women surveyed stated these images and publications make them angry, offended, and upset.

One-fifth of young males in the same survey admitted the material encouraged them to see women as 'sex objects'

A Tory Education spokesman accused such titles "OF FUELLING THE RISE OF SINGLE PARENT FAMILLIES, AND THE COLLAPSE OF CONVENTIONAL FAMILY LIFE IN GREAT BRITAIN"

We need to target family stores such as Tesco's Sainsbury's and local smaller supermarkets, for their display of magazines and papers such as The Sport, Nuts and Zoo etc, as they are CONSTANTLY displaying these publications in full view of everyone and breaking very moral and official guidelines by having them displayed at childrens eye leval, and on the same shelves as childrens magazines!!!!

_These FAMILY based stores and businesses have we believe have
'a duty bound obligation' to clean up their standards of morals if they are to be classed as 'family' stores. _

Many parents have complained to The Family Moral Movement, and store managers, that they are having to tolarate having to choose a magazine for their child standing next to men and teenagers browsing through pages of sexual images of women, in such stores as Asda, Tesco, etc.

More polite pressure has to issued to family stores to
please clean up their moral act, and 'make shopping experiences for everyone a more happy experience'.
Complain politely to Store Managers, by writing, face to face or email.

This has to change! Should 'family' supermarkets, stores and petrol stations really be allowed to display in such an in your face way or even sell magazines and publications of this nature?

Films and T.V have to have 'strict' rules about their certification as to its content......so it is believed by The Family Moral Movement, that these publications are governed by the same rules and guidelines.
For example a film has to make the viewer fully aware as to its content,
but we as a Nation, including our children are exposed to images sometimes worse than the contents in some films, as we shop (without choice)on a daily basis.

A Labour M.P for Crosby, who spent a year and a half researching the industry said "I do not want to censor this material but we must do something with the display of such titles"

MP Claire Curtis-Thomas warns "titles such as Nuts, Maxim, Zoo, The Sport etc are little more than porn and should be treated as such."

Shoot me down in flames if you like but I am signing nothing that has so many spelling errors in it, however much I may agree with the content. It's about presentation and being able to be taken seriously, I'm afraid.

Really bad name. Overtones of Moral Majority. Is this the only thing you campaign on? And who is the Tory Education spokesman you quote?

JollyPirate · 17/01/2010 19:43

I am now a "single parent family" - nothing to do with Zoo or Nuts magazine and everything to do with a man who was not there for me when I needed him to be.

I'd like this "Tory Education spokesman" to talk to me and see my situation before lumping me in with the crappy image he and his ilk have lumbered all single parents with.

Try to consider the whole picture that is being stated here instead of just focusing on Zoo and Nuts, they were just example magazine titles that are sitting next to young children?s magazines, in most stores like Tesco etc etc. Your children.
Next time you are out shopping try to have a look at the display of such material, do you really feel it is acceptable that these titles should be in the same row on the same level.
There seems to be a conditioned acceptance by society regarding this, and the more young children grow up with sexualization with in their day-to-day lives, does it really give them a good grounding to respect sex and women?

Many of these magazines (that 'do not' have a age limit) have content to encourage dis-respectable treatment of women and cheapen relationships (love and sex)

Many stores including some Tesco branch managers have already agreed with the Family Moral Movement and have changed their displays already. With great thanks to those managers.

The Family Moral Movement itself is not blaming any ?one? title in particular for rising single parent families, reports and surveys were added to this cause to help put across other viewpoints that have been published on this subject.
It is not the only problem that aggravates families breaking down; however, media, generally as it goes glamorises and encourages people to be what 'they' want us to be, and to be discontented with what we have and who we are.

I sympathise greatly with anyone who has been left a single parent, for whatever the reason it happened, I was left to raise three children alone for many years, so my heart really does go out to you it really does.I know how hard this is for the children and the parents.

The main point by far and away that The Family Moral Movement wants to help change is the ?display? of this material and keep it away from children, surely most parents would want to support that? Most stores are breaking government display guidelines anyway, and we felt that Mums and Dads would support us by signing the petition.
One thing that did surprise us was more men were showing us support for this than women.
Well done Dads, come on us Mothers.

well, as a feminist I certainly have a problem with pornography which objectifies women, leading to misogynist attitudes in men and body image/self esteem issues in women.
But I don't have a problem with single parents and think that 'the collapse of conventional family life' might on the whole be a good thing....but I will say something I regret soon...
I am in favour of more and better sex education for children better access to contraception for young people and especially a more positive and welcoming attitude to young people who are gay, and to gay parents.
Am I the sort of person you are after?

Melita888 · 22/01/2010 20:31

Thanks Shallishanti for your support and important issue rose about better sex education, and points rose about pornography, which objectifies women, leading to misogynist attitudes in men and body image/self esteem issues in women, which are very valid points.
Sex Education in schools is in my opinion very poor indeed, I have a Daughter at High School, so I have seen the structure of what was taught.

It is tragic that with the fact that Sex Education is poor coupled with children growing up in a society that constantly forces cheap soft porn images and cheap tacky misguided images and education of sexulity, its hardly surprising sex and love are being separated more, and body image and esteem issues are on the rapid increase.

Has the OP seen the MN campaign regarding the sexualization of children?

I have seen this and I certainly agree and are concerned with the points raised.

As re comments from Fallen Angel, this is not the only thing I campaign for, I have been an activist for many animal and human rights issues for over 30 years. For example my animal rights webpage is
