When do they start Preschool???

I'm a first time mum.

They give you information on breastfeeding, bottle feeding, when to get jabs, when to potty train, but I have no information about starting school, preschool, what things cost etc...

HELP!

DD is 2, 3 next May. I have her name down for preschool at the school I want her to go to. I have no idea what costs what (if anything), or if she's meant to start in the September she is 3, or a January intake at 2 1/2.

Why do they tell you about everything else, but your child's education is hit and miss???

How do you find out these things?? Maybe I'm just a bit daft .

I can see her starting a couple of days a week in January - even if I have to stop eating a couple of days a week!!! I'll be very very lumpy by then and we'll probably both be needing the break

3 or 3.5 dependent on school and child's abilities for a state sector school

most pre-schools take them from 2 and half... and it doesnt' matter if they are still in nappies...(they can't discriminate!)
Go and have a look round, I bet she'll love it...

My DS's pre-school has free places for over 3's (govt funded). Under 3's can attend but parent must stay too. Must be clean and dry.

I didn't think they were allowed to insist on them being dry anymore. At such a young age most parents wouldn't know whether or not their child had some kind of SN so wouldn't be able to argue that they should be an exception.

I work in a pre-school and we can not discriminate against children that aren't 'potty trained'...
This must be the same all over the country...
I am in Berkshire.
We do ask that the child is in pull ups.

we mind... but we can't do nothing about it. .. I thought my nappy changing days were over, then I started working at the pre-school, and we only took children that were 'potty trainned' then our early years adviser said that we have to take children in nappies... its the same at all the local pre-schools and nurseries...

I must admit its not a daily occurance.... if they are wet we leave them, we ask them to be just changed before they arrive and the session is only for 2 1/2 hours... if they poo, we obviously change them..

the way I found out was to phone the Children's information Service here and they told me! Round here (Southampton) they can start at 2y 9m and places vary as far as proces and potty training requirements.
Best to phone a few places and go and visit them. Cheapest that I know of is about £5 per session before they get their free ones which is the term after they are 3.

Just to confirm as attended some training a few weeks ago. We were told that it is against the law to refuse to take children that are not potty trained. I believe legislation is from the disability act that was passed a few years ago, but goes for all children.
