French or Spanish - which to go for

I really want to teach my children (4 and 5) and second language. I know that the sensible option would be Mandarin or Arabic but I don't stand a chance with either of those myself. So am tossing up between French or Spanish. Any thoughts on which to go for? And why

thanks

I'd go for Spanish I think - gives more options later (ie almost all of Latin America!). French will probably still be preferred in school, so do something different, I would say.

disclaimer: my (already bilingual) kids are learning Spanish!

Also think its easier than French

My girls learnt spanish from a very early age, now youngest is in reception and learning french at school. Has made it really easy for them to learn a third language, although 4 yo can get very muddled between the two (when she started french few months ago 'hello' became 'bonjola')
