Wallbars: Do they get used in your school gym?

DS (yr5) reckons they never get used in his primary (much to his dismay). Do they even get used at secondary level? Has Health & Safety culture ruled out anyone ever using them again?

They are used at my children's primary school, even my reception aged child has had a go!

They are used from the Reception in my son's school. Perhaps they haven't done the proper safety inspection or they failed.

I use them with my class (yr 5/6) along with the ropes, balance beams and climbing frames. They are used with the younger children but there is a height restriction for them. My class say the best bit about being in 5/6 is that they get to go right to the top!

At my DDs old primary school they have gone from one extreme to the other.

Previous HT had them on the bars and ropes etc with no crash mats "so they'll be scared of falling and will work harder at getting themselves safely to the top and back down again".

New HT has had them all taken down "because we can't guarantee the children won't get hurt".

Can't make up my mind who's the most mental

need to put my specs on as I read that as 'wallabies'!

Yes, contantly along with a climbing wall. I think because children aren't 'babied' here and I have never heard of a risk assessment.

Our primary school uses them, its down to the class teachers how often. So I suppose it depends how confident the teacher is with the equipment.

dd year 1 loves them, but they tend to go outside as much as poss so more likely to use in winter
