(new) Steiner School in N London

Also posted this in SN as may be good mainstream option for children with SN.

Thought this might be of interest to anyone looking for a more "enlightened" m/s school. I've never managed to get to the bottom of the Steiner philosophy, I know they only use toys made of natural materials and they don't like straight lines, and I believe people with ASD have often attended their schools and lived in their communities.

This new school is going to be "the first full Steiner school in London educating children from birth to university entrance. Phase one will
accommodate preschool, 3 kindergartens and Lower School and Middle Schools (to 14 years)."

They have vacancies in classes for children form 6 years to 12 years, don't know if this means the younger classes have not yet been
established. We happened to drive past it today, its on the road (St Paul's?) between Hackney and Highbury Corner but nearer to Highbury.

Next school tour Friday 17th (June I assume) - contact 020 7226 4454 or
visit www.stpaulsteinerschool.org

Don't consider Steiner education until you've looked at the posts on Steiner in the other discussions. They are very secretive and evasive- have been told to be because anthroposophy is weird- they want to give the idea that it's all about creativity and freedom when in fact it couldn't be furth from either. They are considered a cult in some countries and are being watched I think . Also- if you are considering it- go to the PLANS website- very good info and questions- and find out as much as you can about Anthroposophy- because that is the main thrust of the Steiner school's philosophy- a quasi religious, science occult based beleif. If you go along with that as well as BORED midwich cuckoo kids it'll be for you.

the steiner school has been on st paul's road for ages. agree with nr39 re: their philosphies, but each to their own i spose.

(my neighbour's daughter goes there and she's 5, so they definitely do younger classes)

Agree with bundle, that school has been going for ages. It's on the corner of St Paul's Road and Essex road. They do younger classes and toddler groups too, but it's quite heavily Steinery, and a bit cliquey. The actual school starts from 6+.

I'm not sure they do actually have vacancies, it's apparently quite hard to get in unless you've come up through the toddler groups. You do have to buy into the whole philosophy thing -- I know a couple of people whose children started there but then left later.

and don't take any BLACK crayons with you...

strange lot and very cliquey - almost impossible to attend toddler 'drop in' unless you book!

agree with bundle and frogs - it has been there for yonks

also agree. went there with ds to the toddler group. felt totally left out as was not bonkers enough / too bonkers. have never quite figured it out!
