A Year 1 mum Im friendly with has told me today that reception class and year 1 have booked a school trip to .....Weston Super Mare! So up to 60 kids going to presumably, the Beach! Now her little girl has a severe peanut allergy but aside from this she has decided not to allow her dd to go, and has found that about 10 other parents feel the same way - its just too much/too far/too OTT for children of this age.

She wants to take her dd out for the day and do something else educational with her but the year 1 teacher has told her dd that "she isnt having the day off she will be in school and working hard"! Views please? and what would you do?

DS2 went to the beach as part of a school trip in reception over a year ago, and he still talks about it ... Mr X found a very big crab!

It was a great trip, highly educational, and I approve. BUT it was only 10 mins in the coach for us! I don't really agree with taking infants on 2 hr journeys for a school trip; seems unnecessary to me.

JP, I quite agree as to why go to WSM! Nice for a change if local, but not worth a big journey for. As a little girl who didn't get to go on a school trip for a week I know what happens. They did take us on a couple of trips to places, but the other days we were expected to do our work as usual basically. The trip involved long hikes and I had bad feet and couldn't have done it.

what does mean? I've often wondered.

charleepeters · 10/06/2005 20:53

surley its up to the mother if she wants to take her child out of school for the day?

WideWebWitch · 10/06/2005 20:56

Blimey, Weston Super Mare is disgusting IMO, why on earth would anyone want to take anyone there, ever?

jampots · 10/06/2005 21:15

why the Enid ?

Its not my child Im just curious because teacher and parent disagreed so strongly admittedly through the child

I come from Weston super mare and I can think of plenty if places much more disgusting. Having said that, you don't see the sea - its miles out, there are no rock pools, and nothing interesting for little ones on the beach (apart from the donkeys!) And everyone from Birmingham goes there (not that theres anything wrong with that!)
