AS Level French

Hi all ... I did AS Level French at evening class as a hobby, don't need it for anything other than to learn French in a structured way, but it's important to me. My grade is a little disappointing, it's a D.

I am not sure about going on to do the A2, my conversation let me down quite badly and I heard that students generally drop a grade because it's a bit jump from AS Level, I found that GCSE to AS Level was steep.

I would appreciate any advice.

Is there anyone you can practise your conversation with? Would you consider retaking the modules that let you down with the AS before going on to A2?

I'd say it's worth continuing to learn but possibly not worth taking the exam unless you feel confident.

Depends what you want to get out of it. Without retaking some of the AS (and doing more work for these than you did last time) you are unlikely to come out with more than a D over all considering the AS is 50% of the whole A Level. If you're enjoying it for its own sake or want to develop your understanding of French keep going. Did your tutor not give you an idea of your grades as you were going along e.g. for coursework?

Also, have you got the break down of your marks. You can see how far off a C you were and if you did particularly badly on any modules etc.

frankkin I did practise with a French friend but obviously not enough!

fivecandles I got an E for speaking and a C for listening, reading and writing. My homework and past papers were graded at B's or C's. I needed another 10 marks for an overall grade C.

Now that I've thought about it a bit more, retaking conversation seems a good option. I will contact the college on Monday.
