Better to change schools at 7 or 11?

Our DS is 5 and at a (vg) state primary. Lots of year 6's at the school go on to private secondary school (after tutoring) and that is likely to be the option we choose for him.

Does anyone have any views on whether it would be better to move him to private school at him at 7+ or at 11+? (assuming, in each case, that he stays at that school until he is 18). Is he likely to find it less traumatic to move earlier, before friendships are cemented (but with tutoring at an earlier stage), or would it be better to leave him at his current school until 11, and risk major friendship disruptions at that stage?

Would be really grateful for any advice

most def at 7 from a social point of view but also academic.

Probably easier to get in at 7 - much less competition.

I'd say 11. Everyone changes school at 11 so no biggie.

7 or he will need lots of tutoring and out of school sport.
