Standard photography / video and voice consent form

DS will be starting school in Sept and the school have sent us a form asking for consent to use his image or name on : school display materials / school website / school's and LEA's materials and newsletters / LEA and local council website / medial coverage of the school and education dept in local or national media.

I don't know why but I am uneasy about having his full name on anything outside the school - am I just being paranoid? Does anybody else feel like that? or am I mad ...

It's entirely up to you.

I'm ok about it, but my friend fosters children, and they do not give permission due to family circumstances and potential child protection issues.

For photos, they either blur the childs face, hide them behind someone or if not possible then they sit out of the photos....tbh names are hardly ever included in any printed stuff, it's usually a generic "pupils at Manky's School".

Have a woprd with the school and look at anything published by them already and see how you feel.

Are you able to give permission for some things but not others?

Eg. school display materials - yes
School website (if passworded) - yes
Media coverage - no

(or whatever you feel is appropriate)

We have quite a few pupils who we can publish pictures of but not their names. It is normal - if you don't want it, just says so on the forms.

There won't be that many pictures which they will want to capture with individual pupil names. There will be plenty of other children whose parents haven't objected who can fulfil the role.

The biggest pest to the school if they can't take distant shots of groups of pupils, or have to withdraw your child from the group and make an issue of it for them.

The DCSF advice is "If the pupil is named, avoid using the photograph. If the photograph is used, avoid naming the pupil." That sounds fairly OK to me.

If you have photos of individual pupils in the press, they usually have names. 'A pupil from *' doesn't have the same impact.

If you are having a press shoot, then you simply pick pupils who have full permission.
