How to assess good academic Primary schools

Is there any way I can know what independent Primary schools are academically very good in and around London? I dont live in London currently but might move in soon, most probably SW London as I have lived there once before.

Are there any agencies that can help me with the search process. There are quite a few schools that were recommended and that I have heard of, but they all have long wait lists. I find it very difficult to take a decision based on the website. No school will say bad about itself in their own website.. and tried a few google searches but that doesnt help either.

Feeling a bit nervous. Moreover the move is only anticipated, not 100% confirmed too !So am all confused. Any advise much appreciated.

Not all independent primaries sit SATS, though you can compare the ones that do - the Times publishes a list like this one (sorry it is an old one - there is probably something more up to date available). Individual schools can also give you their scores. Do be aware when comparing with state results that independent schools are rated at level 5 not level 4. If they don't do SATS you could ask for year 6 leavers' destinations I guess?

BBC Education had tables/ info

Sorry - This is a more recent list. Though the same schools tend to appear year after year....

Oooh Mrsruffallo - do you have a link please?

Here
Type in your postcode and you should get the league table

Thanks MrsR - but I think those are state level 4s?

giantkatestacks · 21/05/2009 15:40

I think the leavers destinations/scholarship results are much more pertinent tbh...

Agree GKS - but its hard to get hold of the info all in one place - I think you have to approach individual schools?

giantkatestacks · 21/05/2009 16:19

Yes some will say on their website and others will be much more guarded - but all will say if you ask directly.

Also if you are looking to move to Wimbledon/Kingston/Richmond you might want to ask if the prep schools tutor for the 11+ grammars as well - ie Rokeby for example will but others will not...

Thank you for the info. So I can see that I will have to approach all the schools to get this kind of info isnt it.

Thats a shame. Wish there was a website where I could get some sort of a comparison.
