Could I do a RE PGCE with a Politics degree?

Am currently thinking of applying to do a PGCE course. I was thinking of Secondary history initially, as a large part of my degree also covered Political History.

However, I have noticed that there is a shortage of RE teachers. I studied it to A-Level. Would I stand a chance with my degree or would I at least have to do a subject booster course?

Any help/thoughts/advice

TIA

You would have an excellent chance if you backed it up with an OU booster course and children/teaching/volunteer experience.

Not sure really, my friend just got rejected for RE with a degree in philosophy, def get lots of experience in schools. Can you do an OU RE course?

Yes but philosophy is not RE
Yes you can
Apply early

Is there any RE in your Politics degree? You have to have a certain % of your PGCE subject in your degree.

I did a Science PGCE from an Engineering degree, and had to list all the modules I did that were relevent to Science (Physics and Chemistry).

Once you have a PGCE and QTS, you are licensed to teach any subject at any level - if someone gives you a job. You don't really learn anything subject-specific on a PGCE course - you learn how to teach it.

Thanks everyone.

TBH will look at the OU booster course. Not much RE in my degree really other than some elements of religious philosophy.

Hi there, My husband works at a college that runs the PGCE course specifically for RE and he has said that you would have to do some bridging courses. HTH
