Hi,

I know you are going through the primary school place torment as am I and just wondered how you are doing?

When I collected dd yesterday from preschool, all the other mums were saying the right things and saying how sorry they were but it does not really help as they have all got their first choices, so cannot imagine how I (we) are feeling

I have just seen your other post about being on the waiting list, my lea will not tell me but the school have told me there are at least 2 other appeals for a place there.

Keep smiling if you can

Deckchair - have you emailed me? I'm not sure if my anti-spam precutions have sifted you out or if you haven't

deckchair · 07/05/2009 18:01

Hi Winestein,

Yes I have emailed you. My address is from a major supermarket.
Shall I email you again??

Hello deckchair... god you made me feel almost like a celebrity.

will be back in a minute.

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 07/05/2009 22:12

Here I am now Deckchair, god I'm flattered . (was watching the MacCann documantary ). Compare to that I feel my/our problem are quite laughable.

anyway I've called the LEA twice but they wouldn't tell me anything yet as they said that they have not processed the acceptance letters. Whether that is true or not I don't know. I think they try not to say anything till the second round just in case.

Agree with you that it is quite awful at the nursery pick up. I get asked every morning now whether anything changed and I keep saying 'don;t worry I'll scream it when I do!' but the next day same pld story. I can laugh about it and am quite relaxed about it but the first day someone asked me I burst into tears .

I've been looking at private schools in the mean time, something that was not even an option before, just so that I feel I have a plan B.

winestein · 07/05/2009 22:22

Hiya Deck - just trawled through my spam box right til the 1 May when I first posted my email and there's nothing there, so there is a definite blockage somewhere between our emails. DamonBradley can get through (how is it going Damon?) Are you sure you typed everything correctly (and put a -hyphen as opposed to an _underscore?)

Are you on Facebook?

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 07/05/2009 22:30

I'm great thanks. DH still has not printed the stuff for me to read but I did tell him by the weekend so I guess he's got an extra day to do it.

Might call schools tomorrow to check whether situation has improved a bit.

night

deckchair · 08/05/2009 08:43

Hello again,

Weinstein, I think I may have put a underscore, so will send it again in a few minutes. Thanks for chasing me up!!
FB - not anymore, I was spending too much time checking how many sleeps other people had to their holidays etc!

Damon - I too have an appointment next week at private school. It is something I never considered either - but if needbe I will just go back to work before and we will just manage.
I also know exactly how you mean about being "relaxed" about it, it's just another issue to deal with!
I went to visit my friend last night (hence why no reply before) and she was outraged as I showed her the map the council has suggested. She is not as close to the situation as I am but was shocked anyone could suggest such a route.

The school have told me they are aware of "apppeals" but could not tell me last week how many as re-allocation is still going on.

Keep in touch

Oh will do. Will call the CofE school now to see if there's been an improvement. And maybe I'll try the council once more.
Probl;em with the private once is that most, or the one I liked, allocate the placs by the end of may. But too early to give up on a state school no? Cannot lose 2grand!

will certainly update you.

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 11/05/2009 11:14

deckchair I just called the LEA and they've told me that dd is 2nd on the list for the community school near us and 14th on the other. is it any good?I am popping into the other school now to check there.

deckchair · 15/05/2009 20:56

Hi Damon,

Hectic week here - hence not had chance to mn!
Update is a late entry has been given a place above dd. They estimate she is now 2nd or 3rd on list.
LEA have told me my chances are very small of winning an appeal - but I guess they would say that and try to put me off. I acknowledge chances are small, but I cannot just give up.

Heads of both schools (preferred choice and allocated choice) are suportive and cannot see the logic.

Hope you are having bit more luck.

Am going to be off line next week, so I am not ignoring you!
x

deckchair tomorrow will receive the letter with second round's offers. fingers crossed. I do not think we get anything at this stage tbh. if she doesn't from now on it will be a whenever a place comes up. so really anytime till sept. agony. I've looked and read weinstein papers, brilliant btw. I am not sure we have reasons for appeal but still studying the matter.
Cannot commit to private schools either as too early and too much money. what about your private school search?

I'll put updates here anyway for when you get back or come and find me in a week if you like.

deckchair · 25/05/2009 22:18

Am back now!!
Even had a couple of days with few thoughts of the school situation - which was lovely.

Any news on your second round offers?

Winestein is a star - given me loads of info - am currently compiling my appeal as I am giving it my best shot for a place for dd.
(Hi winestein if you are reading!)

Cannot commit to private school - dh is against it and thinking long term, we cannot afford 2 lots of fees for ds as well.

Hope you are ok though
