Helping out in the classroom

I am currently a volunteer in Reception class at my local school and have asked if I can continue to help out in September. I am doing a teaching assistants course (funded by me). I have been told that the legislation is changing on who can help out in a classroom and how qualified you have to be.

Does anyone know anything about this?

I would really appreciate any detail.

Thanks

I have helped out at school since DS was in reception last year and am due to start an OU TA course in October (as a volunteer). The school have been very supportive and have not mentioned anything like this to me. Hopefully somebody else will be along soon who can shed some light on this.

I think that will only apply if you are employed in the school. Hopefully all volunteers will need is their enthusiasm and willingness!

I can't imagine that this would be the case - think of the 100s of parent volunteers in schools up and down the uk

The more volunteers the better! I can't imagine them being discouraged.

Yes that's what I thought. Our school relies on parent helpers so much.

Thanks

Haven't heard this.

On a side note, have been wondering about doing some training from September. How did you guys choose yours? Have contacted our local council about what is available but only had a "we will be back to you" message.

I spoke to other TAs at my school. I then asked the school if they would be happy for me to do my voluntary training there. They agreed and so I enrolled on the NVQ2 course in Jan.
