Between the beginning of January up to now - how many school days were there? (disregarding one inset day)

If a pupil had 88% attendance for this whole term, how many days off would they have had?

I'm really confused by a letter I received today.

Many thanks.

6 maybe

Is the confusion anything to do with 1 day = 2 sessions?

I've been puzzled myself before now over this

I think there have been 12 school weeks = 60 days, less one inset gives 59 academic days.

88% of 59 = 51.92 days present (assume they mean 52 days).

Which would mean 7 days absence.

PurpleOne · 03/04/2009 18:31

No, the whole school was off for inset day in January.

I cannot work out where the 88% came from. DD2 has had 3 days off the whole term.

As someone who has already been to court and fined, and really turned things around - I find this letter really stressful and disturbing.

Ladytrimmer - does that working out include the week off at half term?

Yes.

Assuming they went back on 5th Janurary that would be
13weeks (65 days)
less one week for half term = 12 weeks (60days)
less 1 day for inset = 59

88% of 59 is the same as 0.88*59=51.82 days attendance (I assume they have rounded so it would actually be 52 days). Which means he would have had 7 days absence (+1 inset day).

If you work it back the other way...52 days present out of 59 days = 88.1% attendance.

Have they missed a registration period? Ours is split into 2 so morning and afternoon are counted separately. Ds missed 3 days of school but missed 7 sessions, which I assume means he has missed 7 registration periods. That equates to 3.5 days but knowing he has only missed 3 days I assume the other 0.5 was for being late because of a doctor's appointment.

MollieO · 03/04/2009 20:41

Should add that even though I reckon he was in school by 10 am it still counts as a missed session.
