Anyone else's DC had a "talent for writing" certificate for writing a micro saga?

I thought it was too good to be true. There was even an article in Saturdays' Guardian about Young Writers' money making scheme.
We were so proud to recieve a letter saying that DS's entry had been chosen, apparently from 20 thousand enteries. Now it's seems between 60 - 80% of enteries will be published.
The book will cost between £9.99 and £14.99 to buy (depending on how many we order..)
Am I being mean?

Oh, it does seem like vanity publishing by any other name.

But don't deflate your ds. Keep your to yourself.

My Ds poem was also "published" in this book, we bought three copies and gave them out as mother's day gifts. He autographed the books and felt very special. We know the real truth, (grandparents don't) it has given him lots more confidence in his writing abilities.
