How can I boost DS confidence?

DS started school last September and was pleased to hear that he has settled in well and is happy. I am just a little concerned, after having parents consultation, that DS is lacking confidence in his ability, we read and practice writing most evenings and the last thing I want to do is become too pushy (he is after all only 5!). How can I keep it fun and interesting for him so he doesn't lose interest and want to give up altogether?

Don't worry about it - you are doing all the right things and we all develop confidence at different times. I was painfully shy when I was younger and now I can stand up at conferences and ask silly questions. Just find things he (and you) enjoy and, well, just enjoy it. Teachers have to make assessments and therefore they have to pick up on the slightest things to fill up their reports. The main thing is that he has settled in well and is happy.

Thanks FragileMum. You're right of course the main thing is that he is happy and settled.
