Hi

Vice Chair of PTA here!
We are embarking on our Quiz Night fundraiser soon and I wondered whether anyone had any recommendations for websites where I could access quiz questions. I'm not sure my brain would run to 10 rounds of trivia questions!

Many thanks.

Websites no, but just a suggestion - we did it as byo drinks - tea and coffee provided, and bought in fish and chips for the halfway point - got a good deal from the local chippy who also threw in salt, vinegar, sauce etc. charged £5 a head to include entry and tea. also had a low key raffle.

was adults only, we encouraged teams to be formed from parents in the classes and among the year teaching teams and TAs - we had 3 staff teams which I though was really good.

Quiz Zone is a good sie that I use - but CARE as it is known and many questions pop up.

We have a lot of fun questions in each round, as well as Novelty rounds. We have had short videos to watch with questions (eg name all stars in the COmic Relief Amarillo Video), Spot the Intro with Themes of TV, Film, Eurovision, Kids TV etc.

A good round is one where there is only 1 answer (Guess the Year) and clues are given one at a time getting easier as they go. Each team gets One guess - bringing up their form after the clue. If they get it right on first clue they get 10 points - if wrong No points. You do NOT tell the answer until everyone has guessed. You can CAT me for more details if you like - we have loads of saved quizzes.

Ice breakers left on tables get teams chatting, are collected mid way through and added to final scores - eg match up invention to dates, Bond stars to films & years?

Thanks Milliways - Quiz Zone is fab! Just spend the evening looking at the questions - really good.

And make sure that not all of the questions are high brow and that the marker isn't going to get all pedantic about the spelling of a name. Spoils the fun and let's face it it should be fun.

I'm quiz master(mistress) at our Quiz night. I think they adore my sparkling wit banter! PMSL!!!!!

We finish up with a 'heads and bums' thing. Everyone who wants to take part in THAT bit pays a pound (someone goes around with a bucket to chuck the money in- by this stage we've 'had a few' so we all muck in!).

Then the contestants stand up (which is most of us!). A question is asked which is true or false. If you think it's true, you put your hands on your head, false on your bum, or vice versa. The correct answer is given, the 'losers' sit down. Then the next question eliminates another few and so on til there are perhaps 3 or 4 people left, who then get to stand out the front!! Til it comes down to the winner who gets 50% of the takings for that bit of the quiz, the rest into PTA funds.

Always very popular and makes an additional 30 to 40 quid for 5 minutes work!

WHY are PTAs so obsessed with quiz nights? Ours has one very year. I really hate quizzes, but like to socialise, so will be giving ours a miss, even tho' I'd happily come along and contribute funds without all the drossy trivia...

faraday · 28/02/2009 17:48

I'd've said Quiz Night wouldn't be my choice of thing- BUT they're really good fun, esp as ours are BYO...

Each year I've brought along someone new, under duress, and each time they've captained a team of their own the following year.

Milliways · 28/02/2009 19:02

We have "Quiz n Chips" with the local Chippy delivering the Fish/Chips whatever about half an hout after start time. We have ice breakers, food then quiz.

But our Quizzes are more fun then intellectual......

havannahmum · 28/09/2010 11:28

Does anyone have any ideas/websites for mothers day gift sale Ideally costing no more than £1.25 so we can make a small profit to boost the PTA funds
Many thanks

havannahmum · 28/09/2010 11:29

Try businessballs... They have loads of quizzes
( type into google and it will come up)

PatriciaHolm · 28/09/2010 19:13

We have a bar run by the PTA at ours, we make hundreds from that ... We also have a joker round where if you play your joker in advance, you get double points. we have fish and chips delivered too.

And MrsGuy - you may hate quizzes but many others don't - ours is always a sellout! Perhaps you should go along to a pta meeting and suggest something else they could do as well if you'd like something else?

I'm just about to host my 5th annual quiz at school and points I would make are similar to others...
mix high brow films and reality TV questions in a "screen" round, pop music from all eras, sport across the board...

Put in some questions that are tricky, some that everyone stands a good chance at, and also some that are a complete guess (Guiness World records are good for that)

We also do a picture/famous faces board, a taste test (so far crisps and jelly beans, can't tell you this years in case of lurkers!)

I dot music in throughout. Last year in my geography round we had bits of songs by artists with Geographical connections (Ryan Paris, Berlin, Manhattan Transfer...),
played National Anthems, sporting theme tunes, songs with numbers in them...

The other thing I would echo is to check your facts thoroughly. I always add little notes so if I think someone may argue a fact with me I've got back up (can you tell thats from experience of being wrongish about a James Bond and Star Trek question!)

Above all, laugh a lot. Its supposed to be funGrin
