DD knows that we do not intend for her to go to the local secondary school and we have had tears from her saying she does not want to be parted from her friends. Fair enough.

This morning she has been in her bedroom practising pages and pages of sums. I have asked her if she wants to come out with me, she said no she is busy.

Apparantly she needs to go a private school, we live behind Bryanston so there would be acceptable, but she also likes the look of Clayesmore. She said to me:
" I know you dont earn enough for me to go to a private school so I have to work very hard to get in for free"

I said would you not miss her friends, she said
"Going to the best school is more important than friends, I want to be with very brainy people"

Good for her! Make sure you encourage it (and when she's not looking take a strand of her hair and send off for one of those kits!)

I think you need to let her in on the secret that very brainy children go to state schools too!!

It's interesting what makes children 'like the look' of a particular place though isn't it? One of mine begged to go to Bedales when she was about ten, because they don't have to wear uniform and they have a farm with sweet little lambs! Damn the internet. If they didn't read the bloody websites we could keep them in ignorant bliss!!!

violethill.

She was supposed to be starting at Stonyhurst this sep but we moved so she goes to the local primary. But in her mind as much as she loves her primary school she wants something else/

Introduce her to all the brainy people who go to state schools - I'm sure we could find one or two mumsnetters with children in that catergory....!!!!!

Not "all the brainy people who go to state schools" obviously - that would be ridiculous! Just some of them.

I love your DD! I always wanted to go to boarding school. My local state secondary could never meet my aspirations.

SuperBunny · 25/01/2009 07:01

But I got sent to my local secondary school and survived. There were brainy people there iirc
