Does anybody know anything about this? If anybody's child has received it, what does it concretely mean? Does it help with arranging work experience placements?

Info is here From the handbook - it looks like the student gets £500 over 2 years and the school gets £450 also over 2 years. Some wooley stuff about networking & high profile events, but most importantly the student gets allocated a sponsor who may offer work experience/careers advice &/or university sponsorship.

Way back in the mists of time I used to work for an organisation that helped to support the Arkwright Trust. From what I remember, the mentors all come from pretty major organisations and are keen to make sure that the students get something out of it - whether that's work experience or sponsorship as Snorkle says. From what I remember, there is a big presentation ceremony and the scholar gets to meet various different people from companies etc with the industry who are all able to offer advice and support re careers etc. The people that I used to deal with were all very organised and keen to find opportunities for the scholars (and crucially know about all sorts of other schemes and scholarships which might be appropriate). Hope this helps. I might have some further info somewhere - let me know if you want me to try to dig it out.
