is it ok for ds to listen to ipod when doing homework he is 11? i am finding it more and more difficult to reason with him

If he works effectively that way, yes. Some people's learning style means that having background noise will actively help them.

I'd say so.. I always had music on when studying. Long as he is actually getting it done.. I don't see the harm tbh

If he finds it relaxing and helps him concentrate, and you are sure the music is calming rather than the opposite, and you're sure he doesn't play it too loud, then it's probably OK.

I like to work in quiet/silence personally, and find it hard to sympathize with teenagers who like music on constantly. But it can genuinely help them, so I don't think you have to ban it.

My ds1 (11) doesn't really listen to music yet, so we haven't had to have this discussion ... yet!

Ds (11.7) does and sometimes on the laptop he might have i-player going in the corner.

The i-player bit I am not totally happy with, but he did not realise I was watching from behind and he was actually getting on with what he had to do - and it was a boring subject for him - RE.

FWIW - I think it is a difficult age anyway, they have lots going on in their minds and bodies.

thanks i suppose as long as he is actually doing his homework. i think 11 is a difficult age were having a few flare ups!

the only problem I can see is what happens when the music stops. ie what happens when he has to study...say in an exam and he cant concentrate because there is no music ...I myself had to have music to work, and struggled during exams
