Bit of a wierd one but my ds is starting reception this summer he'll be one of the youngest.Just wondered when they go to the loo for a number 2 :-$ does a teacher go with them?

I've been trying to get him to DIY but not having much luck.A bit like putting on shoes and getting dressed though i must confess that is probably down to me as it is quicker and easy to do it for them.

Lil I think you are right - I'm sending my ds in Sept even though he will only be 4yr 3mth, however it is an option if parents don't think their child is ready. My DS is in f/t nursery, so I'm sure he'll be fine

Iota - that is fascinating. I'd been told that I would lose his school place if he doesn't start in September. (Ds is 4 in May).

But it still feels like there is no option - he can't go to nursery or playgroup once he is 'school age'. I think he will be fine, if shattered, but I don't feel ready to 'let go', and personally I think going so young is less than ideal.

He can go to nursery until the term after he is 5. Alternatively he can go part time if the school is in agreement.

My ds1 is due to start shcool in September, he will be 5 in May 2004. If he does go in Septemebr it will be for 1 morning a week- building up slowly. The rest of the time he will be at nursery. My original plan was to keep him at nursery until the term after he is 5 (the nursery agreed), but I think easing into school via foundation will be easier for him.

If you need to look up the policy on age of admission to school, it's on the DFES website - it's a PDF document or I would ahve cut and pasted - link is www.dfes.gov.uk/sacode/index.shtml
