ds goes to pre school 2 full days a week and i am wondering whether to increase this to 3 full days after easter before he goes to full time school in sept.

part of me thinks it would be good 'practice' for him iyswim, but part of me wants to make the most of the time i have left with him before he starts school.

what do you think??

My 4 yo dd goes to the School Nursery 5 afternoons a week and since xmas has been going to a pre-school 2 mornings a week as well. She copes with this fine and thoroughly enjoys both settings.

Ds1 started school at 4yrs 2mths but before the summer holidays he went to pre-school for 5 mornings per week. Each session was 2.5hrs long.

I did exactly that with my Dd Maisystar. She went for two full days from age 3 but then at 4 she went for 3 full days until she started school in seprtember.

I did this because the nursery staff said they would have more time to do her reading and writing skills with her then, and i had been thinking about it anyway as a way of helping her gets used to school.

She loved it, didn't bother her one bit.

My ds1 was 4 yrs and 1 month when he started school, but he only did half days during the first half term anyway. He was at nursery for 4 mornings a week before that. I didn't put him upto 5 mornings as I figured the summer holiday was so long that he would get out of the routine anyway. And I enjoyed our lazy fridays too much to give them up (it was the only day i didn't work, so nothing to get up for !)

What happens when he starts in September? Will he be starting off with half-days at first (as ds1 did) or will he be going straight into full days?

maisystar · 17/03/2005 20:13

no, straight into full days. do you think it will actually help him to go 3 full days at easter, or will he just 'forget' anyway over the long summer hols??
