School related hence not posted in AIBU topic. DD almost 9 was asked to join in with another older pupil(OP) and perform something for school house assembly. OP had a song chosen in our mother tongue (not English). DD brings it home and I tell DD it is not appropriate. It translates to things I consider vulgar for 9 and 10 year olds to be singing about. Basically male, female, inviting to bed kind of stuff. Now, I encourage DD to find something else appropriate and she takes it to school and gives the OP a copy . OP insists on giving a made-up meaning to the song but then agrees half heartedly. But next day OP takes it to the teacher and says my mum wants me to do mine, can't do DDs. Now, teacher tells DD, OP's sounds fun , you either join her and perform or you will not take part in assembly. I am being pedantic? DD speaks only English and doesn't understand my mother tongue, should I just let her join in because she won't understand anyway? I was so convinced that I was right. Told DD, its wrong to give made-up meanings to rubbish when you can find amazingly worthy poems in my mother-tongue and one has to be true to their self first. After all this, I feel like I have brought this on DD. She is terribly sad :-(

Advise me please!
