Err... Why is Pascal's triangle exciting?

Ds1 has obviously been reading something (unfortunately I don't know what), and is very excited about Pascal's triangle.

He's supposed to be going to sleep, so I wouldn't let him tell me about it. But he's brought a copy down to me ...
... and I can't for the life of me work out what is so interesting about it
(I did A Level Maths, but it was a long time ago!)

er was that the x squared plus y squared = z squared thing (z being the longest side of the triangle)???

Sorry, Freckle - thanks for your link too. That one was more on my level

PS I still don't get excited about it though! I'm quite glad I'm not walking them to school tomorrow, no doubt ds1 will tell dh all about it
