Dd came home pale and upset.

Aren't they a bit young to see something like this? Do you think they/we should have been forewarned?

What was being dissected?

An eye.

I remember my teacher dissecting a fish eye but we were the equivalent of Y6 adn were forewarned.

Even worse stuff at secondary school. Several girls fainted.

I am shocked at what kids find Ok to watch these days. Essentially, though, what is Ok for one Yr 3 kid is not for some Yr 8s! I recall a friend of mine fainting when we went to a farm and saw a lamb being born. We were about 14 yrs old. In Biology lessons we didn't dissect anything real until we were at least 13 and I don't think it was compulsory. Video not an issue as it hadn't been invented then! Personally I think Yr 3 is too young to see films of the dissection of anything. Also totally unnecessary. Shows unkindness and a lack of sensitivity on the part of the teacher/school. Some kids are very sensitive and something like that could give them nightmares for weeks. What's the point when a book would do.
