We live in the South Side of the city. Options near us for dd (who's an only)to start preschool next year are St Margarets (all girls), Watsons or Heriots. Anyone have any recommendations? We've visited them all except Heriots so far, really liked the small classes at St Ms, at Watsons the facilities are excellent but bigger classes. Would prob go for St Ms but slightly hesitant as dd is an only so wouldn't have a lot of contact with boys, they have a few up to the age of 8.

Hi are you wedded to the private idea ? Because if you are prepared to widen your net there are lots of excellent pre-schools around. e.g. Montesorri at Holy Corner, Greenbank, South Morningside etc

I have lots of friend with children at the 3 schools you mention - all are great - just pe rsonal pref really. Would say heriots is the most academic followed by w then St M

Good luck choosing !

I went to St Margaret's and we had lots of contact with boys - activities with boys' schools in the area (Loretto, Academy, Merchiston, Fettes).

We're not in the right catchment unfortunately Dropscone for good schools this side of the city. I did hear even if you request a place outwith, chances of getting one are slim.

What did you think of St Margaret's SqueakyPop, have you got happy memories?

I loved every minute of it

I have 2 daughters at St Margaret's and they just love it. It is a real community, and such a warm and friendly school. We looked at Heriot's and then Sciennes, but the class sizes are MASSIVE once you have been spoiled with St M's ideal class size.

Boys now stay until they are 10 and the school has strong links with Merchiston Castle.

I would take into consideration which ever school is nearest. I know it seems far off at the mo but time passes and soon enough she'll be going to school by herself, being able to walk with friends makes life easier for both of you.

St Margarets is a good school.
