DS got his first year report today (reception) and poor attention span is written all over it, he's very sporty but academically his mind wanders.

Any one expereinced this and can suggest anything (homeapathic/natural) to help? I heard fish oils may be good?

My son is now 8 and has been like that for quite a while. In reception he just wanted to play with the cars etc, not interested in learning. He was also young for his year, which I think didn't help. His teachers have always said he doesn't listen and has a poor attention span. On the positive he is has a great imagination, very sporty and is confident. I try to avoid E numbers etc and give him fish oil. Enjoy your little boy and don't worry too much, he is only in reception. I try to tire my son out with lots of sport before any homework! I am sure we are not the only parents with active sons.

That's NORMAL for a reception-aged boy!

Does he concentrate well at some times - eg when doing sporty stuff / watching TV(!) or when you read to him?

My son was a bit like that adn we tried fish oils, but he is now 7.5 and won't take them (they are quite unpleasant!), but his concentration is good, unless something is really boring / pointless!
