What are the going rates, per hour, for tutoring for the 11+?
I ask because I reckon my mother should raise her fees, but she's reluctant.

According to ATL, the going rate for private tutoring is £30 per hour plus reasonable travel expenses.

So, does area make a difference? Would London be more than rural? Would supposedly "affluent" commuter belt towns warrant higher prices than elswhere? Or is it more localised than that? Or down to the business nous of the tutor?

Here (SW London) recommended tutor with 4 year waiting list is £40 an hour single tuition, £25 paired tuition. Gulp.

solanum · 14/07/2008 10:04

£40 an hour???? Who on earth pays that for the tuition? Is the success rate exceptionally high?

singersgirl · 14/07/2008 10:38

Weeeeelll, I do and so do most of my friends/parents of DS1's friends. This woman is so booked up she teaches from 4.00 to 7.00 every school day and from 8.00 till at least 2.00 on weekends.

You kind of get sucked into the hysteria living here.

She does have a very high sucess rate, yes, and is also very good at making sure you apply to the right school for your child.
