Hi,
My daughter is in year 6 and took the Buckinghamshire 11+
We were incredibly lucky as a low income family in social housing, we were provided free tuition of one hour of English and Maths each week and an Atom learning subscription.
My actual question is although my daughter did not pass (she scored 103) and is average across the board. Do these schemes help lower income children or are children who pass the 11+ in Buckinghamshire generally greater depth from a very young age?
Im just trying to ascertain if my daughter is truly disadvantaged or with her motivation and love of learning she will be able to excel.

For context no one in my family has been to University and I didnt even do my GCSE’S. Education was not really something that was celebrated.

I don’t know anything about the specific schemes you mentioned or how much additional work your DD did, but most kids taking the Bucks 11+ will have been tutored for year 5 and probably year 4 too, some even earlier than that. Generally boys do better at the 11+ than girls. Keep supporting your DD through secondary school, many grammars will have spaces in 6th form.

I believe some give spaces to pp applicants with highest scores, potentially slightly lower than the general cut off score. I imagine she was seen as having potential but there may be others at greater depth already given the same support. Hopefully it will have boosted her academic confidence which will benefit her longer term.

Yes, the school we were looking at gives spaces to pp who have 110. It absolutely has boosted her academic confidence and she is thrilled with her score. Im just interested in the disparity between high income/low income households.

Thats interesting because two boys passed the 11+. She is in a small village school.

Don't write your daughter off because she didn’t get into a grammar school. She’ll still be able to excel and do well at a non-grammar.
