My Mum would pay for private school but only for DS

I was the 'victim' of this My single aunt said my brother should go to a private school. She was quite fearsome (teacher) and my Mum and Dad really struggled but sent him to a (terrible) private school as my Mjm was slightly afraid of my aunt. There is 10 years between me and my brother. I passed the 11+ so went to the local grammar, but often thought whether I'd have been given the opportunity. The local girls independent was truly awful academically and I'd have been so bored! But this was decades ago when 'boys were best' and given every opportunity that maybe wouldn't have been available for girls.

Why are you reposting this

VickyEadie · 07/10/2026 13:51

In your case, I don't see your point - you went to a grammar and you say the girls' independent was awful.

I think this is quite common. BiL went to grammar but his sister, who didn't pass, was privately educated.

So you are the victim
of not being bored at a rubbish independent school? I don’t get it.
