Hello i wasnt sure which topic to put this under as it involves a few different ones. My 12 year old son broke his femur at school 3 weeks ago and had surgery to have a metal plate fitted. He attends a special school who at first were really supportive, the family support worker kept in contact with me about everything to make it easier. After a week they started the risk assessment for when he would return, I spoke to her on the phone and answered questions etc then she said it would be written up and I just needed to let her know when we were ready for him to go back. He had a follow up appointment a few days later where his doctor said he was doing really well and could go back to school any time. My son was doing great physically and needed no pain meds anymore, and desperate to go back to school so I told the support worker, she then asked more questions to add to the risk assessment and then i heard nothing I just assumed that she was completing it, so I waited another day then asked her again about whats going on with him returning and she then said we need a gp or hospital note saying he can return with answers to their questions included on it, like can he get in and out the taxi, how long can he stand for and what activities to avoid, which ive already answered! And the middle one is a weird one as hes non weight bearing right now which they know.. am I right to feel annoyed and that it's wrong that I had to chase them up to find this out? I contacted the hospital and gp and they both said they might be able to send a letter through the post but wasnt a clear yes or no so I dont even know if thats coming or not, im stuck now on what to do next as ive read everywhere that a doctors fit note for a child isnt a legal thing for schools and that they don't generally give them out anyway, does anyone know if this is true? What should I do next, in regards to if I can't get a note and the school won't let him back without it, email the senco people at the school or contact the council, maybe sendiass, or get on at the hospital about the note? I have no idea. The doctor said he could return more than a week ago so my son is just sat around missing his education for no reason when he really wants to go back (they asked me if i wanted a pack sending home for him a week ago and we haven't recieved anything yet). He is in a wheel chair and on crutches for the non weight bearing but no cast, he is perfectly fine and eager to go in every other way. The council are also waiting for me to send the risk assessment so that they can make sure his current taxi can meet his needs, I suffer from social anxiety so this is all so super stressful. Thanks for any advice
