DS failing Uni

Hi I am looking for any thoughts regarding current situation.
DS has had a number of significant (traumatising theme) events going on which I can't share as outing, which have impacted his studies plus he is ND. Started uni but relocated due to above events, this meant having to change course and using SFE Gift Year.
1st year uni fine
2nd year - lots of developments in relation to events so additional stress/trauma plus commenced therapy. Seemingly doing OK however got very behind and overwhelmed with work and long story short has failed 4/8 modules.
Uni have been aware of all the issues and offered reduced timetable repeated 2nd Year with additional support ie coaching etc. We need to request CPR from SFE for funding.
Questions are is there anything uni could. Or should have done to step in as when things looked like they were spiralling and what is reasonable to ask for in terms of support for next year?

It’s good they’re offering reduced timetable for this year. Did he let them know at the time he was getting very behind/overwhelmed?

I’m unsure from your post if you’re blaming the uni for him failing some modules for last year, or if you think they should be offering more support for this year?

The uni should have a student services/well being team - they usually have disability advisors who can help with applying for DSA (Disabled Students Allowance) which could fund a specialist mentor - assuming this isn’t already in place? Does the uni have any ongoing counselling they can offer? Key thing is to encourage him to be open to any and all support available and to communicate with his academics. It’s really difficult for parents because unless he’s given permission then the uni staff can’t talk to you directly.

No not blaming uni just the more I've been pondering it I've been wondering if (and I could be wrong as I don't know much about this) if they could/should have foreseen he was heading for this spectular fail and if anything could have been done to get him back on track.
He says nothing was offered but he is terrible at organisation and planning so highly likely they could have offered things and he hasn't engaged for whatever reason.
It's frustrating the year is a right off not to mention the cost but yes great reduced timetable and all not lost.
