Has online study helped your career, and would you recommend it?

I've been looking into online education recently and I'm curious about other people's experiences.
For those who have completed an online course or qualification, did you find it genuinely useful for progressing your career?
I'm particularly interested in courses that can be completed alongside work or family commitments. I'm wondering about things like:

• How flexible was the course?
• Did employers recognise the qualification?
• How much tutor/learner support did you receive?
• Were the assignments manageable alongside work?
• Would you choose online study again rather than attending college in person?

I'd be interested to hear what worked well for people and what you would avoid when choosing an online course.

Oddly, @ThisLoudCoralSnake, you’ve missed the board under the Education topic that would have given you all the information you could possibly want.

Look again.

I did an Open University degree, 100% online, somewhat flexible for study but course work submission had a strict deadline.

I managed but it was a struggle (worked 40 hours a week, long commute - time which I used to study, a child + husband and all the usual responsibilities like housework, dinner and taxiing around!).

It's doable if you are super organised and for me was totally worth it. Its helped me find 2 jobs and probably helped increase my salary long term.
