Extra work outside of school

Hoping for some advice - I have a DD who is going into year 9, neither she or myself have been as focused as we could be and I’m determined she’ll work harder this year and she’s keen to do it, her teachers say she has the potential. We want to focus on science and history so I’ve ordered her the science key stage 3 year 9 work book but has anyone any advice on how to structure her weekly timetable for additional work, the amount of extra work she should be doing (she also does extra curricular activities) and what works?
thanks in advance

I’m not quite sure what you’re asking
DC1 just did her GCSEs & got 8s & 9s. Her sport takes up 3hrs on 2 evenings a week and then for most of the day on Saturday and she’ll go swimming a couple of times a week and do some school sport too. Plus socialise. She tried to have Friday night off but, on the other two week night evenings, would do 3 - 4 hours each evening. She’d probably do about 6hrs on a Sunday. Unless we were on a family holiday, she’d do 3 or so hours most days on the school
holidays, obviously significantly more immediately before school exams (straight after May HT in Yr 9 & Yr10 and straight after Oct HT in Yr11). This was a combination of work set by school and revision or preparation for GCSEs.

Maybe extra work should be:
Going over anything she didn't fully understand
Good quality revision for all tests, learning what works for her
Reviewing tests to learn why she went wrong ( not understanding, poor revision, not understanding the question, insufficient detail, etc)

I you can afford a tutor to work out a plan it's often really a good help.
