Applied Science BTEC instead of A-level Biology with a grade 6

I posted earlier in Further Ed, but not much traffic.

DD wanted to do A-level biology but has just got a 6. School have suggested she does Applied Science BTEC but she really doesn't want to do physics and chemistry. From what I can see, the A-level is really difficult.

Has anyone's DC been in the same situation and it turned out OK? She wants to go into neuroscience. Her other A-level choices are art and psychology.

The btec is a better qualification and the chemistry will be useful for neuroscience. Search entry requirements for those degrees, it's also a mix of course work and exam with a built in re sit opportunity for the exam.

Does her school offer Btec in human biology? Which other A levels was she hoping yo make and what were her other grades?

Thanks both. Wants to do psychology and art A levels too. She got 6s in art and maths. 5 and 4 in physics and chemistry, although an 8 in her chemistry mock...

@Iworkmiricles that's good to know about the BTEC exam. Yes, I said to her chemistry would be useful too.

@3WildOnes no, unfortunately, no option for human biology.

School have now said she might be able to do a trial in the biology A level. If not, they said the applied science is more biology than chemistry and physics, so she's feeling a bit happier.

That’s good @PoorPenguin My DD is talking to her college on Weds. I’m hoping they let her try biology A but we’ll see.
