Baseline assessment/gap identifier

Looking for recommendations for any platforms that identify gaps in learning/knowledge for English and maths so I can try and work on these at home. I’ve used Doodle learning and this is what I’m thinking of but looking to see if there’s something better?

Kids are about to start year 5 and 8. Year 8 child has some mild learning differences (dyslexia and maybe something else still being explored) so is a little behind age related expectations and in an ideal world I feel she would benefit from pre-learning topics but for now looking to catch up. Year 5 less of an issue quite able with maths but struggles with the effort required in English/writing.

I’d say stick to Doodle Learning. I’ve tried Atom Learning and Century as well but by far the best platform for identifying gaps and then plugging has been Doodle maths and Doodle English for us.

Doodle is decent but it's worth knowing it doesn't really assess her, it infers. It works the gaps out gradually from how she goes on the daily questions, so you're several weeks in before the picture is much use to you. If what you actually want is an answer now, look for something that runs a proper diagnostic up front instead.

On the maths side, my DH built mathstutor.me, so take this with the pinch of salt it deserves, but the reason I'm mentioning it on this particular thread is the free assessment. It maps where they are against the curriculum in one sitting rather than over a month, and it runs KS1 to GCSE so it would cover both of yours. Free tier after that is 8 exercises a day.

I'd treat the English separately though. The effort thing with writing isn't a knowledge gap, and I've never found a platform that diagnoses that one well.

Thanks both totally missed these. I tried IXL and they both hate it. Doodle is preferred but only goes up to ks2
