Tiffins boys catchment area

Hi - we applied to tiffins for sixth form. Only in the familiarisation day we found out about 10km catchment area

This is concerning for us, as our intention has always been to move into the catchment area if my son were offered a place. We were not aware that applicants needed to be living within the catchment area before offers are made in order to be considered.

As a result, we are now planning to move into the catchment area by the end of July, well before offers are made on 20 August.

This is a genuine and permanent move. We asked the school the below questions but no response and hence thought of getting advise here.

  1. Will my son will be considered on the same basis as other applicants who already live within the catchment area?
  1. Whether moving into the catchment area by July end/August beginning will ensure that my son's application is treated the same as those of other applicants living within the catchment area?
  1. What evidence or documentation you require to confirm our new address and residency? Given time is too short, making sure we don't miss out anything

Appreciate if anyone has done this and can share some experience. We have been struggling to get any answers from the school

Thanks a ton for your time

I would guess that the answers to all of that will be on their website or a linked document.

in fact here we are. Looks like you needed to be living at the address on 31 October though.

Apologies just realised you said sixth form.

Tiffin only make offers on results day now so that should help. Last year they were incredibly rude and unhelpful with the process though so I know of two students who had planned to go there who ended up declining their offer because of that. Both had straight 9s which seems to be the initial deciding factor in getting an offer.
Definitely worth making sure you have back up offers you would be happy with.
it also helps if you want to do humanities subjects or languages rather than STEM.

Thanks Avebury. The 2 students you mention - did they get the offer without moving and then they declined since the school was not cooperating? The school hasn't replied at all to us as well. We do have back up but don't want to waste money in moving unless there is a chance

I don’t think they needed to move but the school’s attitude to the whole last minute admissions process was diabolical and quite rude. Telling them they would be contacted by 6pm if they had a place then e mailing at 8pm and saying they had to accept within half an hour. One DC was already away celebrating with friends and uncontactable yet they called first thing the next morning aggressively asking why he hadn’t replied.
It just massively put them off the school as they felt it might be an indicator of their pastoral care. Both went elsewhere and have zero regrets.
Dreadful that they are not getting back to you either.

@Mandaga the full admissions policy is here: https://www.tiffinschool.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Admissions-Policy-2026-27-Adopted-February-2025.pdf

The second bullet on page 14 says "If you move to a new address and have advised us, once our address verification procedures have been satisfied, we will revise your child’s position on the waiting list"

Tiffin rank their external sixth form applicants by their GCSE points score on results day in August, so the address shouldn't matter until then.
