Aptitude tests recommendations

Any one taken their child for an aptitude tests to see what career is best suited to them. Son is year 7 and school.is already talking about what subjects to take.

What’s the point, at 12? Work is a long way away.

Surely the career they want is their choice and not down to parents or a pointless test.

Why? It seems a bit pointless. What does the child want?
