Special consideration

DC was hit by a car earlier in the week. Luckily he walked away, but has been in considerable pain since. He’s taking co-comadol and he finds it difficult to concentrate and sit for any length of time. We are going back to the doctors on Tuesday if he does not start feeling better.

He has A level exams in early June, which he wants to sit. Would he be eligible for special consideration? I can only find information for issues on the day of exams for AQA.

Many years ago I worked in the Special Consideration Department for a big exam board. Back then you'd need to have documented the accident and medication plus the effect it had had on revision - this went to the school who added their own evidence and it was then forwarded to the exam board. Some of the things I approved for SC were heartbreaking. Speak to the school as they'll know the protocol.

Yes, I would ask about special consideration.
However what may be more help would be having Access arrangements in place to make sitting exams more comfortable. I think your ds could qualify for supervised rest breaks, so that he is not sitting in one position for hours causing more discomfort and pain.

Thanks both.

@catndogslife DC has 25% reasonable adjustments already tbf. We’re concerned because his revision has been impacted plus whether he will be able concentrate with the pain as he won’t be able to take cocomadol at the time of the exam as it makes him drowsy. OTC drugs do not help.
