Any recent experience of the Amersham School? Is there a sense of disappointment or friendship groups breaking post primary if only some get into Grammar school?

I think primary school friendship groups often break up anyway at secondary school - DCs are likely to be in different classes and then different sets too, and new interests are discovered.

We had 1 at GS and 1 at Amersham at the same time about 10 years ago (and still live in the area so know DCs currently at both). Personally we didn't find the differences quite as marked as some people seem to think, but obviously that is just our experience. Both still socialise very regularly with their school friends.

@Rockclimber67 I cannot say this has been a problem with my DDs or even me! Long time Bucks resident. You might find some parents will send dc to private school as well so a new start at 11 has to be viewed positively and there’s more dc available to become friends with. Plus it would be unusual if the majority went to the grammars. Years ago a few primaries used to achieve this (Little Chalfont definitely) but not so much now and that means dc won’t lose all friends and will find new ones.
