DS is in Y10, has innatentive ADHD dx. He can actually write quite well but it often takes him a very long time to write open ended long form writing. Like over a week he can write a paragraph at a time of English Language response and is quite good. But in tests he freezes up and can't write a thing. He's had writing broken down for him time and again, so I'm looking for advice other than 'break it down into smaller tasks'.
We try that but he can literally look at a picture and say 'I can't think of anything' when you say 'Just list things you can see' . It feels like he has paralysis on starting because he doesn't know how he's going to do the entire thing, IYSWIM?
Does anyone know of any psychological tips and tricks for getting past this block and not worrying about the whole thing? Like I said, not 'breaking it down', it doesn't seem to help. Because at this rate he won't be able to sit English Language, Lit or History if we can't break this block. 😥
