Anyone tried to get their child into Kingston Grammar versus Wimbledon High for Senior school
I have got a little one who has a space for Wimbledon High but the school fees are very high and just wonderef whether it was better to wait and try for 11+ into either school though Kingston Grammar fees seem to be lower than WHS

The fees for both these schools is fairly similar at secondary - difference is too small. If you are looking for lower fees then Sutton High is a good option and they start at reception too.

Many thanks, I just feel WHS runs as a business and so they don't really care much about the children as long as they get their quota

thank you

WHS is part of the GDST and their fees typically tend to be lower than other comparable.
Lots get into WHS and KGS from state schools at 11plus so perfectly possible to save your money for private secondary.

Both schools are seriously oversubscribed at 11+ and the pool gets much wider then because state school children join in. Plenty of bright girls don't get offers — having a place in hand at WHS is genuinely valuable, not something I'd give up lightly.
Worth thinking about too — if you don't take the WHS place, you still need to pay prep school fees somewhere, and decent preps in that area aren't cheap either. The real saving over those years is smaller than it looks on paper once you factor that in.
KGS fees are lower than WHS but the gap isn't enormous, and it's co-ed which is a completely different environment to WHS. Have you visited both recently? The "feel" of them is quite different and DD will be there 7+ years so it matters more than the fee gap, in my view.
One last thing — if WHS junior fees are already feeling stretchy, senior fees are noticeably higher and rise every year. Worth modelling both routes properly before deciding rather than going on gut feel.

You don’t have need to pay prep fees elsewhere. Just go to a decent State Primary and supplement with a bit of tutoring. Of course your DD may not get into KGS or WHS at 11plus but there are a ton of other schools- particularly for girls.

The fees are pretty much the same. You just have to decide whether you want all girls or mixed. The 11+ can be a bit of a lottery so you have to factor that in too...
