My son gave 8+ exam this year and he was put on reserve list for both KCS and SPJ . On SPJ he is first and KCS he is third . It’s March and now KCS offered him a spot today . We love both schools but KCS is further out for us . We are in Richmond . Which one is a better school and which one should I pick .

to add further details..

We want him to try for 11+ for Wilson’s and QE boys .. so any schools we pick could be potentially for 3yrs only . We don’t like his current private school and hence the move .

If you were thinking of sending your DS to a state grammar school for secondary school at 11+, it might have been worth trying a prep school until Year 6.

My friends son went from Westminster Junior and moved to Tiffin grammar school in secondary, and honestly it was quite difficult for them. He didn’t want to leave their friends because almost all of them continued on to the senior school.

He still say he really miss the facilities and environment of the private school.
At least in a prep school, knowing that everyone will be moving on to different schools helps them adapt a bit more easily.

Do you already have an offer from SPJ?

You can have school bus from Richmond to Kings. If you choose St Paul’s, you need to take bus. I will choose St Paul instead of Kings because junior just moved in new building, while kings just started to build a new building.
